How to use emoticons and smileys in twitter?

Although you can not use graphic smileys and emoticons in Twitter (at least for now – wait for updates in this space), there is a way to game the system and use cool emoticons in Twitter. Here is a quick example:

So, how to insert emoticons to twitter messages?

Easy! Use the following chart, choose the text symbol you like (especially useful are the  ☹ and ☺, but thee are tons of other cool symbols you can use), copy the symbol and paste it in your message. It works!

Good idea, but it is about time that someone would add real smileys to twitter. We are textually dying here!

Ya I agree with Sam.. there should be smileys in Twitter.. the text allowed is too short to do without smileys

The emotions on Twitter aren’t really ideal as when subscribing to feeds (which a lot of people do) they come across as unknown characters because they not encoded correctly.

Also, there are more emotions for Facebook than what you have on this website (the other page won’t let me leave a comment though).

For a full list of Facebook emotions go to: http://www.peternichol.com/blog/entry/facebook-smileys-chat-emotions/

This website even includes the NEW Shark and Penguin emotions.
